Amanda Parker Nylund, MD, is an emergency medicine doctor with over 18 years of clinical and administrative experience. She was born and raised in the small Texas town of Marshall. Growing up on the farm meant early mornings, working weekends, and endless responsibility. These roots served her well to embark on the adventure of medical training. She was a proud graduate of Marshall High School, graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science from Texas A&M University, earning her a coveted spot at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. Medical training culminated in residency at the University of Houston Medical School in the world-renowned Houston Medical Center, training with the likes of Dr Red Duke. There she completed her residency in Emergency Medicine as chief resident and then gained her board certification in Emergency Medicine.
After graduating she has been fortunate enough to practice in all sizes and scales of emergency rooms. She has spent time in rural areas where she combined emergency medicine with primary care in underserved areas, all the way back to a level 1 trauma center in the Houston area. A decade of that time she combined clinical practice with administrative duties acting as Medical Director for several ERs and serving as Regional Medical Director for the largest ER staffing company in the US. Currently she has found enjoyment working in the freestanding market where she is able to spend more time and connect with patients on a more personal level.
It is in this blessing that she was able to slow down and realized making medicine as personal and intimate as possible is exactly what she should be doing. It is this revelation that brought her to concierge medicine. It was the perfect opportunity to reconnect with patients. She believes in Dr Kasper’s philosophy of making complicated things simple for patients and was thrilled to be able to partner with him.
Dr. Nylund’ s message to you -
“Good health is the most valuable asset you have, and I am here with you to protect it”
When I was 10 years old, I solidly knew I was going to be a Doctor. Where I grew up in the British Columbia Canadian Rockies my vision propelled me from home schooled education to California for College and Medical School. Then finally, my path led me to Texas to complete my medical residency and here I’m ensconced 20 years later, as an Emergency Doctor, dedicated husband to my wife, with a large family of three sons, daughter-in laws and to include six beautiful grandchildren!
My passion for medicine inspired me to work in a variety of venues, from Urban Hospital ERs, Freestanding ERs, to Urgent Care and Medical Missions in Guatemala. Through all of this experience, I’ve learned, what I believe, is the most elemental aspect of practicing medicine. This is helping people navigate through their unique medical experience and demystify what their conditions are, what they mean, how to treat them ,and where to go find the right path of continuing care if needed.
In addition, I've noticed medical conditions happen at extremely inconvenient times and this is when patients need care the most, as their doctor may not be available, they are at work, home bound caring for kids or traveling for example. Deciding to bring 20 years of knowledge and experience to medical cannabis, I’m passionate to provide direction, convenience, comfort, expert advice and treatment in these challenging times when people frankly need to get back to their full time lives with the least interruption.
It is providing medicine on your time and in consideration of your time. My commitment is to individualize your care based on your unique circumstance and invest in the most valuable asset…..you!
